Denman Island at a Glance
A stepping-stone to Hornby Island
in the west, Denman Island is a rock well worth turning over. Its numerous acres
of undeveloped land allows for a peaceful lifestyle for local wildlife, visiting
tourists and established residents. Rocky coves, sandy beaches and lush forests
inspire the large artistic community. Gardening is a passion among residents,
which is evident at the popular Denman
Island Home and Garden Tour, and largely due to the long growing season. Sandy
Island Marine Provincial Park, just off the northern point of Denman Island,
contains a fascinating but fragile ecosystem of plants and animals. Walk out to
it at low tide—but be aware of when the high tide is expected to return or risk
being stranded. Denman is located in the north-central area of the Georgia Strait,
and is just a 10 minute ferry-ride from Buckley Bay on Vancouver
Island.
